Bespoke design process

Rosanna’s design process is rooted in meticulous attention to detail, collaborating closely with the client at all stages of the process. She covers:

  • Concept, moodboards and market research
  • Creation of new prints including hand painting/ drawing and preparing clean, fully separated digital files in repeat
  • Working with vintage and archive pieces to refresh, redraw and recolour
  • Creation of print colourways
  • Working with existing designs a client may have e.g. to adjust repeat/clean/edit
  • Creation of colour palettes- full use of latest Pantone books
  • Engineering and placement of prints

Rosanna creates bestselling designs for not only the apparel and interiors industries but also for products such as stationery, tech devices, footwear, home accessories, drinks packaging and book covers.

Her passion for creating contemporary design is combined with her skill in reinterpreting vintage material. Having worked closely with leading heritage brands Liberty and Sanderson, she has gained expert knowledge in reworking archival designs for modern collections.

Regardless of the project size, Rosanna works hand in hand with the client to deliver a tailor-made service.

Rosanna’s design ethos is to work closely with the client to provide outstanding results. She can join a project at any stage of the print design process to provide expert knowledge and creative input.

Design inspiration

Rosanna’s designs are a celebration of bold colour, hand-crafted details and joyful pattern. She enjoys fusing the world of contemporary design with historical references, and her studio is piled high with second-hand books, glossy design magazines, endless colour charts and fabric samples.

Designing for Liberty has given her a love of vintage and archive discoveries- old book stores in Hay-on-Wye or vintage garments from Portobello Road Market. She balances this with influences from modern art exhibitions, street style and horticulture for a unique take on print design.

The work of creative figures such as interiors master Ben Pentreath, German illustrator Christoph Niemann, painter Helen Frankenthaler and fashion designer Miuccia Prada continue to inspire Rosanna’s designs.

Client case studies

Rosanna worked closely with the Head of Design and Senior Designer to reinterpret treasured pieces from the Sanderson archive, to form part of a modern collection of fabrics and wallpapers. Using contemporary design references such as Josef Frank, she reimagined the handwriting of the Sanderson archive pieces and painted up stunning new designs in repeat, using gouache.

Reiss commissioned Rosanna to engineer a series of bold, oversized placement prints for a womenswear and childrenswear capsule collection. She incorporated photographic floral motifs into new, bold compositions and engineered each design to a specific dress shape. The finished digital files were recoloured using a soft and romantic colour palette.

Australian sleepwear brand, Papinelle, approached Rosanna to develop the concept and finished artwork for a new design. It needed to celebrate an important milestone in the company’s history and also work across both adults’ and children’s sleepwear. Rosanna compiled a competitor analysis along with several moodboards to define the concept. She sketched a series of thumbnails to explore print layouts and compositions, before creating a small sample area of the design to show the artwork style and represent the motifs in more detail. The finished design was worked up digitally into repeat and fully colour separated, ready for production.
